Credit cards & ATMs
While credit cards are accepted in most places, always have some euros on you as the smaller cafes, shops, or even ticket offices in museums will take cash only. As well, have you cash ready if you need to use a public restroom. If you need to use an ATM or exchange money, do not opt for the first place on your way as different banks take a different commission and the fluctuations might be tangible. Compare a few banks before giving your money away.

Dinner time & afternoon closings
Typically, restaurants in Italy are open for dinner from 7:30 to 9:00 pm and reservations are recommended. Expect many shops especially outside the city center to close down from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Many Italians prefer to relax at home during their lunchtime.

Tipping etiquette
In most cases, tips are already included in the bill. If they are not, you can leave 1-2 euros in trattorias and pizzerias and up to 10% in some smarter places. Don't be surprised when you see "Il corpeto" (bread and cover) charge on your bill as it is standard even if you don't eat the bread. You are not expected to tip in bars but many people do leave small change.

Train travel & Taxis
Make sure you validate your ticket before getting on a train. You can do this by using one of the validation machines on the platform. If you need a taxi, you have to call for it/ ask someone to do that for you or find an actual taxi stand. In Italy, a taxi will not pick you up if you simply hail it even though it might be free.
